Still on the subject of interesting comic layouts. I couldn’t not include Paul Hornscemeir’s The Tree Paradoxes. The book is a must have for any comic book fans not only because it’s beautifully and imaginatively presented but because the story is a proper work of literary goodness. That’s for another post though, It’s the really lovely layout of the title page that is of interest to me right now. I adore it! The way it’s presented as a crop from a page of a comic book is really effective and it instantly lets you know that you’re not in for your average comic book presentation, the whole book is presented in many different comic styles with unfinished pencil sketches, halftone colouring, solid colouring and a section presented like an old used comic book. This is definitely an idea that I would like to explore with my double page spreads. Drawing out a whole comic would be way to time consuming but producing something similar to this would be easier and probably just as effective.
