I’ve been really curious to see cloudy with a chance of meatballs since hearing Mark Kermode’s glowing review of it earlier in the year. From the posters I had originally just written it off as another crappy non-pixar digimation, but after hearing Dr. K refer to it as ‘David Lynch for kids’ I couldn’t help be interested. I’m really glad I did give it a second thought because it is a really great film. Watching it there is definitely something Lynchian about it, The whole thing though extremely light and fun and quirky has this really odd surreal undertone, which comes to head near the end with the scene featuring the sentient roast chickens, make that black and white and yo could probably insert it quite conformably into Eraserhead. Another thing I loved about it is the fact that the main character is a geek, not you’re typical geeky yet still cool protagonist, just a full blown geek and his love interest is a huge geek as well! The whole film is so much more than I would have ever thought and it’s taught me a lesson in not judging films so quickly. I have Dr. Kermode to thank for opening my eyes to one of the best film’s I’ve seen this year.
